Illustration & art work
I’m Mick Dekker, a 24 year old French-Dutch artist raised in the heart of the Alps, in Morzine, nestled within the Portes du Soleil.
I recently completed my art studies at HKU, the University of the Arts in Utrecht, in the Netherlands, and I’m now back in my beloved valley, drawn home by my deep love for the mountains, which are at the very core of my artistic practice.
Wandering through these landscapes, I observe, absorb, and translate what the mountains offer us into lines and colors. Though they may seem timeless and still, I see them as alive, full of movement, emotion, and a kind of quiet willpower. They feel almost sentient, and I believe anyone who has spent time among these towering stone giants can understand that sense of connection.
My work is intuitive, sometimes naive, but always with an emotional dimension to touch and bring people together. This process leads me to discoveries that seek to surprise me and also others. I mainly use analog drawing techniques; in this way, we keep a link between the public and the artist. By observing each line or stroke of paint, I have the feeling of looking straight into the artist's soul and being able to go back in time. It is this feeling that I want to share.
Everything can be a source of inspiration and give me new ideas to create new experiences and perspectives for my audience.
